The Pool Is Open

I was over at my son’s house over the weekend, they opened the pool and we had a great time. Even though there were not any small children around, I thought back to when they were small, and we would always have to be on guard constantly whether we were at home, at a public pool or on vacation around the Ocean.

So remember to stay safe, active, and healthy when it’s hot outside.

Drowning is a leading cause of death in infants, children and adolescents. Learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) so you can act quickly to prevent drowning.

Stay Active without over doing it. There are many ways to stay active and beat the heat.

Here are a few:
Go to a gym for a nice, cool environment with a variety of activities.

Use the equipment, work out with free weights, or whatever turns you on, but remember to pace yourself. Listen to your body, and it will tell you when enough is enough.Visit your favorite local swimming hole or take swimming lessons at a pool.

Start a walking group with your friends at the mall. It’s another way to stay connected, focused and motivated.

Take up an indoor sport, such as racquetball, basketball or volleyball, or taking an aerobics class.

Go ice skating. Yes they are open in the Summer also.

If you are outside when it’s hot and humid, wear light, comfortable clothing and work out in the early morning or late evening. Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If you experience symptoms, stop exercising and cool down immediately by dousing yourself with cold water. You may need medical attention.

Heat exhaustion can progress quickly to heat stroke, which can kill you. Learn about hot weather and cardiovascular disease and the symptoms of heat exhaustion and stroke.

Fire up the grill Keep these tips in mind to help you grill “fat-sensibly” this summer.Try grilling fish. The healthiest types include salmon, trout and herring, which are high in heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Buy chicken breasts instead of the fattier dark meat (legs and thighs). Remember to remove the skin before eating or try grilling chicken or turkey burgers using breast meat and add diced onions for more flavor.

Choose “loin” and “round” cuts of red meat and pork. Look for “choice” or “select” grades of beef instead of “prime.” While these have the least amount of fat, don’t forget to trim the fat when you get home. Use a rack so the fat drips away from the food.

If you wonder about a need to supplement your diet, Here are a few things to think about.

There is no one single pill that will supply all your daily requirements, but multiple vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other supplements are readily available in tonic, pill, and many other forms.

But what do you really need to be healthier? And how much do you need? And how can you make sure that you are getting it?

For starters, WebMD compiled an expert-approved list of the top five healthiest nutrients and how to get them. Go there and browse the site for yourself. Here is the short version.Calcium Hands down, calcium, which comes from foods including low-fat dairy products and supplements, is essential for a healthy body. How do you know? Consider that an 8 oz glass of milk or calcium-fortified juice or a cup of yogurt contains about 300 mg.

So, take a look at what you are normally eating, and if you are not in the range, consider a supplement.

Magnesium The Daily Value (DV) for magnesium is around 400 mg. However, most magnesium researchers say we need two to three times this amount, especially for people who have magnesium-deficient conditions including heart disease, muscle cramps, headaches, and muscle pain.

Magnesium deficiencies are seen in a host of conditions including asthma, diabetes, kidney disease, and even migraines. Magnesium also helps with calcium absorption, so you need it to help build healthy bones. Magnesium is harder to get through foods, so supplements are usually necessary.

Magnesium-rich foods do include almonds, peanuts, brown rice, and cereals like oat bran and shredded wheat.

Vitamin B which includes B-6, B-12, and folate (folic acid) are key to overall health.According to the American Heart Association, homocysteine is an amino acid that has been linked to an increased risk for heart attack, stroke, and other major diseases. It may damage the inner lining of arteries and promote blood clots, but researchers are still not sure exactly how it affects disease risk.

However homocysteine levels are strongly influenced by diet, and several studies have found that higher blood levels of B vitamins are related, at least partly, to lower concentrations of homocysteine. The Daily Values for the B vitamins are: folate, 400 micrograms or more; B-6, 1.5-2 mg; and B-12, 2.4-3 mcg.

Today, cereals, breads, and other grain products are fortified with extra folate. Also fruits and vegetables like spinach, oranges, broccoli, and asparagus have high levels of folate. Check your multivitamin to see how it stacks up with B-6 for body function, and B-12 for energy.

Vitamin D, or the sunshine vitamin because your body makes it in response to sunlight, is often overlooked today. More people are staying out of the sun and as a result are becoming deficient in vitamin D and setting themselves up for fractures.Vitamin D helps your bones properly use calcium. Normally 15 minutes of sunlight per day with sunscreen is a good idea.

Dairy products including milk yogurt and cheese all are fortified with vitamin D. Aim for 600 IU for vitamin D.

Multi vitamins One way to make sure that you get at least the minimum amount of all your vitamins and minerals is to take a Multi Vitamin every day. There is quite a bit of evidence that multivitamins are important for general health, immunity, and well-being. Vitamins were traditionally useful in preventing deficiency disease which we don’t really see so more in this country.

Today vitamins are used to support normal organ and body functions, enhance immunity, improve cardiovascular function, and even prevent cancer.

Enjoy It!

More About Ephedra In Diet Pills

Recently I have been looking into the ephedra diet pills, and I had additional questions, so I put together some extra information on the subject.

Ephedra was taken off the market for a year a few years ago , but it is now back on the market and is still very popular with those who are looking for a weight loss pill to help them with their weight loss goals.

They can’t keep enough stock on the items since it was given the “OK” to be sold again, and online sites are doing a brisk business as well. There are still some common sense cautions that you should read before taking ephedra or anything else for that matter, so I tried to include them here also.

Ephedra, known in China for the past 5000 years as Ma huang, is the worlds oldest medicine. Research bears ou t the claims that ephedra increases metabolism and helps promote weight loss. It relaxes the air passages in the lungs to help treat asthma and cough, promotes perspiration to help a person recover from a minor cold and helps promote urination to help relieve edema.

Ephedra has also been widely researched for its thermogenic or fat burning properties. Other research has show that ephedra helps promote the loss of fat while helping retain lean muscle tissue, which is important because prescription diet medications still have not been able to reproduce these results.

That being said, ephedra IS a stimulant and a thermogenic, and should NOT be used by people or in situations where these properties might be harmful.

There are some common sense issues associated with using ephedra:

- If you have any medical problems that using a stimulant might overtax your system, don’t use ephedra.

- Do not use ephedra if what you are doing or where you do it at will not let your body cool down or dissipate heat. Your body core temperature might exceed safe levels.

- Follow the directions on the bottle. Do not take more than the manufacturer's recommended amount.

To summarize these 3 things: Do not use ephedra if you have a heart condition, and if you are wearing something like a plastic warm up suit to exercise in, don’t take ephedra. The same rule applies to playing sports on a hot muggy day. Finally if you have any doubt about taking more than the recommended amount, check with your doctor or health care adviser.

Start Now

Have you ever heard the saying The Past is History, The Future is a Mystery, so all we have is the Present?
Well, the present is the gift that we give to ourselves. Now is the time to start changing our nutrition and exercise habits to put us back on the path to a healthier lifestyle.

No more procrastination and telling ourselves we will start next ______ fill in the blank. We wait until New Years to make those weight loss resolutions and by Summer we give it up as a lost cause.

If we are ever going to reach that or achieve anything we set out to do we have to do things differently. We can’t do the same things and expect different results. That means it’s time to start now to begin sculpting the body we visualize for ourselves. It might help to write it down and post it where it can be seen daily.

I now have a set of things I need to do every day like start with a healthy breakfast before I go out for a walk. My plan is to lose on average 2 pounds a week for 3 months.

I found a great way to lose fat and weight. Starter 2 is what I have chosen to help get me going. When I hit that mid morning or afternoon hunger, this will help get me through it until I have changed my eating habits forever.

I got it at SupplementsToGo.com at wholesale prices plus 5% off with the coupon code vip5off . If you are ready to do the same I recommend you give it a try yourself.

What Is The Alternative For …

Now that Hydroxycut has been pulled from the market people are searching for safe alternatives for assisting in the struggle to lose weight. For starters staying healthy has to include eating right.

We know that includes high fiber and natural foods like whole grain pasta, fruits, vegetables and lean meats. But even though we know that this is good advice, it can be hard to stick to.

Sometimes you don't have control over what you get served. We are on the go, back and forth to work, running errands and not getting home to eat.

When you don’t get enough fiber and drink enough water, your digestive system can get backed up. You can experience weight gain, a loss of energy, bloating, or gas.

One effective way to eliminate this “build-up” is to use a cleansing supplement. One of the better ones available online is called Sculpt n’ Cleanse, and it’s safe and gentle to use.

It is the first-step, many take when beginning a weight loss, body shaping, anti-aging or health improvement program, and since the digestive system has been cleansed, more energy and nutrients can be absorbed from food.

Many individuals have said they have more energy and even feel younger. Others report that their skin clears up because the body is able to cleanse itself. And don’t forget the painful and unattractive bloating gets cleared up too. It could be that those jeans that were just a bit too tight around the middle will fit again.

Another benefit for people who have had years of impacted waste in their colons, may be losing 10 - 20 pounds in a matter of days. That’s like carrying around a bag of dog food around all day. Just the loss of that weight helps to move better.

And since their digestive system can now function better, they find it easier to control food cravings. So they may lose more weight, or at least, find it easier to keep from gaining weight.

Because of the problems with Hydroxycut , other safe alternatives for losing weight are becoming more well known.

Acai Berry is one that is taking the world by storm. It is an antioxidant that is known also for it's weight loss properties when combined with other natural antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and amino acids, work together to help your body function better, process food easier, and burn fat more efficiently.

All this means that we do not have to accept weight gain, lethargy, and pain as signs of aging.
If we are what we eat lets go with the good stuff, and get a good exercise routine to go along with it.

Weight Loss Is More About Less Calories And Exercise

I just ran across some interesting information from a new study sponsored by the NIH. The conclusion was that any heart healthy diet that cuts calories can help overweight and obese adults achieve and maintain weight loss. This is no matter how you count the proportions of fat, protein or carbohydrates.

Researchers funded by NIH’s National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) used 811 overweight and obese adults, aged 30 to 70, and assigned them to 1 of 4 diets. The participants didn’t have diabetes or severe heart disease but may have had other risk factors like high blood pressure or cholesterol.

The 4 diets all had the same calorie reduction goals and were heart-healthy, (low in saturated fat and cholesterol and high in fiber). They varied the levels of fat, protein and carbohydrates. The 4 diets were: 1) low-fat (20% of calories), average protein (15% of calories); 2) low-fat, high-protein (25% of calories); 3) high-fat (40% of calories), average protein; and 4) high-fat, high-protein. Carbohydrates ranged from 35% to 65% of calories.

The participants recorded their food intake for 2 years, had diet counseling sessions, and were also asked to do moderate-intensity physical activity like brisk walking, for at least 90 minutes per week.

The report was published by the researchers on February 26, 2009, in the New England Journal of Medicine.

They saw about the same weight loss in all 4 diet groups after 6 months and also after 2 years. On average, participants lost 13 pounds at 6 months and maintained a 9 pound loss at 2 years. The participants also reduced their waistlines by 1 to 3 inches by the end of the study. Craving, fullness, hunger and diet satisfaction were similar across the 4 diets.

Other studies showed that a loss of 5-10% of body weight will help reduce risk factors for heart disease and other medical conditions. In this study, 15% of patients achieved a 10% weight loss after 2 years. Consistent with previous studies, the diets all improved several known risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

"This new information should focus weight loss approaches on reducing calorie intake rather than any particular proportions of fat, protein or carbohydrate," says principal investigator Dr. Frank M. Sacks of the Harvard School of Public Health.

Fastin Is The Answer To The Question

There has been more than the usual amount of Buzz about weight loss and losing those extra poubnds now that summer is here.

If you are questioning how to lose large amounts of fat... the answer is Fastin. This is a diet pill that is prescription strength, but you don’t need a prescription to get it. It’s one of those supplements that you need to check with your doctor about, before you invest in it, if you have any health problems.

It was originally intended for people suffering from obesity, but it is safe to use in losing any amount of weight. You also have to remember that this is not a "wonder drug", so you have to put in some work for the body you are looking for.

That means you have to get on a diet and workout plan. That’s nothing new, you should diet and exercise while taking diet supplements as part of an overall healthy lifestyle.

There is an online site that I frequent where I can find a large variety of nutritional supplements at extremely discounted prices. Check it out for yourself at Supplements To Go.

The Beach Bod Is Ready To Debut Now

It’s time to unveil the new beach body you have been working on since spring and if people ask you how you did it, there is a good chance that a diet pill called Green Stinger could be involved. Many people have been looking for products to help them drop the winter weight they picked up, and one of the most popular this past season has been Schwartz Labs Green Stinger. This is a pretty high impact stimulant that was formulated to kick start a fat loss diet and burn body fat. These also have ingredients to increase energy and focus along with obtaining the body you have visualized.

The manufacturers at Schwartz Labs make quality products at fair prices, and the product reviews back up their claims of effectiveness. Even though there are a plethora of other diet pills out there, they do not seem to be able to replicate the effects of the classic Ephedra-Caffeine supplements. Their claim to fame is that when used properly they give more energy, increased metabolism, and proven weight loss results

Another group of users of this is athletes and body builders who use it at a pre-workout supplement, to provide energy before hitting the gym.

You can find ephedra diet pills online and some sites are currently offering FREE SHIPPING when you go online.

If you're one of the millions of Americans who live a sedentary lifestyle and don't get much exercise on a regular basis then this is the best choice for you when it comes to losing weight. Click on the green stinger link above and try it for yourself.

Extra Virgin Keeps You Healthy

One of the main ingredients used in the Mediterranean Diet is Extra Virgin Olive oil. I got the cookbook as a ‘present’, while recovering from open heart surgery.

I use extra virgin olive oil as part of a healthy, well-balanced diet, with fruits, vegetables and wholegrain breads and cereals. My favorite dish is Chicken Fried Rice, and it has a great taste too.

It is well documented that people living in Mediterranean regions have reduced risk for certain chronic diseases and longer life expectancy when compared with other groups of people in the world. This is in spite of their high dietary fat intake, which usually makes up more than 30% of total energy intake.

Some of the other claims of the Mediterranean Diet are that it helps with mental health, blood sugar health and weight management, keeps DNA healthy, protects cells from damage, and helps keep blood pressure in normal range.

NOW Foods’ Extra Virgin Olive Oil is cholesterol-free and has been a mainstay worldwide since Biblical days. It has less than 1% oleic acid as well as many other oil components.

The FDA's website says: Limited and not conclusive scientific evidence suggests that eating about 2 tablespoons (23 grams) of olive oil daily may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease due to the monounsaturated fat in olive oil. To achieve this possible benefit, olive oil is to replace a similar amount of saturated fat and not increase the total number of calories you eat in a day. One serving of this Olive Oil contains 11.5 grams of olive oil.

Extra virgin oil is the top grade of olive oil. It is made from the first ‘pressing’ of good-quality olives. The oil is removed (extracted) by a traditional cold-pressing method, where no chemicals and only a small amount of heat are applied.Research has come up with a number of other benefits from using olive oil. It may help reduce your risk of developing chronic diseases such as: cardiovascular disease and cancer including breast, colon, lung, ovarian and skin cancers. Other studies have shown that olive oil may also help reduce or manage blood pressure, obesity, rheumatoid arthritis and immune function. It may also increase your life expectancy.

Now the latest study to be published supports keeping DNA healthy. It is thought that olive oil may also help keep LDL cholesterol healthy. Oxidation of LDL is thought to be one of the precursors to the onset of heart disease which is the #2 killer of Americans and costs our healthcare system almost $450 billion per year. But now a new study has found that it is indeed polyphenols in olive oil that help keep red blood cells healthy.

In the study, researchers obtained blood samples from healthy, non-smoker volunteers and they then treated the blood samples with either olive oil antioxidants or placebo. Then they exposed the blood samples to a chemical compound called AAPH, known to cause oxidative damage.

The researchers found all of the olive oil antioxidants with the exception of EA were able to significantly reduce cell damage from AAPH. Specifically, 20 micromoles of hydroxytyrosol and EDA protected 50% and 65% of the red blood cells, respectively. Even more important, the protective effects against cell damage increased as dosage increased, with the 80 micromoles of hydroxytyrosol, oleuropein, and EDA protecting 95%, 93%, and 95% of the red blood cells, respectively. But it was EDA that had the most consistently protective effects starting at 20 micromoles and was the most effective protector of red blood cells.

This was the first time it was demonstrated that 3,4-DHPEA-EDA, one of the most important olive oil polyphenols, may play a noteworthy protective role against [cell damage] in human cells. So replace those saturated fats with Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

10 Things We Did To Lose Weight

It’s time to unveil the new and improved physiques that we have been working on over the past 6 months. For many of us it has been a difficult project, while others seemed to have it made from the start.

I read somewhere that the US spends over $30 billion a year on diet products and programs. Almost everything you read has articles by so called experts, and even medical doctors promote one diet scheme or another. Weight loss supplements like Acai Berry are also is high demand. The net result is that most people simply don't know who or what to believe.

Achieving your ideal weight level is important because excess weight is known to be a risk factor in diabetes, hypertension, heart problems and arthritis. Keep in mind that no matter what the reason for trimming down (peer pressure, sports, or just looking good) there is a danger of dropping too much weight.

When you decide on a goal, if you lose too much weight it might also cause health problems. Search out a BMI calculator online to determine what a healthy range is for you.

Here is a summary of what many experts believe are safe, effective, medically approved weight loss techniques:

- Keep a count of and reduce the calories which you consume and increase your daily exercise to around 30 minutes.

- Cut out, or reduce simple carbohydrates and eat complex carbs like wild rice, beans and nuts.

- Get more fruits and veggies in your diet, which are low in total calories and high in essential nutrients.

- Eat smaller meals more often to avoid becoming hungry. You can eat 5 or 6 small meals instead of 3 larger ones.

- Limit junk foods that you already know are bad for you, like sodas, desserts and ice cream.

- Replace high fat salad dressing and sauces with lemon, lime, salsa, soy sauce, or spices.

- The simple answer from the “experts” for to losing weight is that you need to expend more calories than you consume by cutting calories and getting more exercise.

- Slow and steady wins the race. If you go on a crash diet to cut calories immediately, your body will have difficulty with the sudden drop. Reduce your high calorie foods gradually and this will avoid unwelcome metabolic surprises.

- Drink plenty of water and be sure to get out doors for sunshine and fresh air. Get as much as possible of your nutrients from raw fruit sources or veggie based smoothies and salads.

- It is not a good idea to eat a big meal just before sleeping either in the daytime or at night. The calories tend to be stored as fat while you are sleeping.

There are some excellent supplements and eating plans available online which incorporate these principles.

So What Have You Got to Lose?

Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has been at the forefront of the battle to keep ephedrine alkaloids legal, and also the leader in technology surrounding this amazing herb. People who have used our Lipodrene and Stimerex-ES products universally proclaim that they are far superior to any other fat loss and energy boost products on the market. The truth of the matter is that they are correct.

Lipodrene is an ephedra-based weight loss pill. If you have a lot to lose, or a lot to prove, and are looking for a supplement that helps you lose a lot of weight in a fast, safe and effective manner, you may have just found it.However, losing weight is not as easy as changing your skin color or your hair color. It takes hard work, effort, and time. If you opt for a surgical procedure, like liposuction or a gastric bypass, be prepared to lighten your pocket book considerably.
I am assuming that the majority of people want a quick, easy and effective solution to the issue or dilemma that they are currently faced with. This is why supplements, diet pills, and the entire weight loss industry are so popular right now. Weight loss pills are the cheap, easy to use, and effective alternative to surgery. A good example of this is the Lipodrene weight loss pill .
Each tablet of the Lipodrene weight loss pill is made with a proprietary blend of ingredients. Overall this combination of ingredients results in a power-packed weight loss pill that promotes fast and effective weight loss. While everyone does not react in the same way, this supplement is considered as effective as anything around today.
Just remember, if you are under the care of a doctor and taking prescription drugs, check with them to ensure that they all don’t interact badly. You don’t want one pill counteracting something else.

FDA Research On Diet Pill

If you are into dietary supplements or even if you just watch the news you have probably seen the recall of Hydroxycut weight-loss supplements after the Food and Drug Administration urged consumers to immediately stop using the recalled products, which are made by Iovate Health Sciences Inc and marketed for weight loss, boosting energy and other uses.

I checked the supplement sites I go to all the time, like supplementstogo and found that they didn’t carry some of them anyway, but the ones they did have had already removed on the same day the FDA sent out their bulletin, so I am impressed with their responsiveness.

We may not be able to use the Iovate Health Sciences Hydroxycut for awhile but there are plenty of other outstanding products out there for achieving weight loss goals.

I also went to the FDA site and looked at the information they had listed. If you want to check it out I have added a link here. The recalled products included Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets, Hydroxycut Carb Control and Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets.

"The FDA urges consumers to discontinue use of Hydroxycut products in order to avoid any undue risk. Adverse events are rare, but exist," said Dr. Linda Katz, interim chief medical officer in the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.

The company agreed to voluntarily pull the 14 products even though the FDA has not seen reports of serious harm with all of them, Katz said. Agency officials are investigating which doses and ingredients may be harmful, she said.
Two products with different ingredients, Hydroxycut Cleanse and Hoodia, were not included in the recall.

Finally the FDA advises that if you had taken the recalled products see your doctor if you had symptoms of liver injury like nausea, vomiting, light-colored stools, excessive fatigue, weakness, stomach pain, itching or an unusual loss of appetite.

10 Excuses For Dieters And Solutions

I was browsing diet and fitness and came across an article by Jillian Michaels. It was interesting to read things that I have said as well as my friends and family. I found some new motivation to not let myself off the hook when I feel like eating junk food or skipping your workout.

I have to get into the mindset that Failure is not an option any longer so I have to just suck it up and change the bad habits I have fallen into.

Changing a habit is like trying to launch a rocket into outer space. It is really hard breaking out of the atmosphere but once you do things get a whole lot easier.

Here is my take on some common excuses for not being able to work out or lose weight and some motivation to get back on track.

Excuse: "I don't have time to work out."

If it’s important enough you will make the time. If I have time to sit on the couch and watch TV, I can find a way to make my health a priority also. I can schedule my workouts like another appointment. I could get up a little earlier and do a fitness DVD. There is time on the weekends. I have a treadmill I could do 30 minutes on while unwinding and watching "The Tube." Actually I must make the time for me. The benefits outweigh the cost. I’ll have more energy, better overall health, and better self esteem so it’s worth it.

Excuse: "I have to keep junk food around for my family and/or significant other."

Wrong … They shouldn't be eating that stuff either!

Excuse: "I've tried to lose weight before, but I just can't do it."

I have told my kids you can do anything with enough time and the proper motivation. So I need to practice what I preach. I need to learn more about how to work out properly. Learn about calories and how many are in the foods I eat and how many your body burns naturally each day. Understanding is the issues and knowledge empowers you to make choices that create life changes. The next time I am about to say, "I can't," I’ll ask instead, "How can I not?"

Excuse: "I have too many business dinners and social gatherings. I can't lose weight in that environment!"

Really no one notices if I pass up the fatty appetizers, or the open bar. I find that when I am at a business dinner they go better when I am not drinking. If I go to a dinner party, I can always bring something healthy with me. That way you'll know there is at least one healthy thing to eat. Another good idea for not offending people, is not to go on a crusade about eating habits; just say "no thank you" to the unhealthy stuff.

Excuse: "I travel a lot and can't get into a routine."

I could if I wanted to. I can buy healthier snacks when I am out of town, stay at hotels with gyms, take fitness DVDs and do them before bed in your hotel room. When I eat out I can order my food grilled or baked, and get the dressings and sauces on the side, pass on the starchy sides and get steamed veggies. If I can do it, so can you.

Excuse: "My friends eat poorly and it makes it hard for me to eat healthy."

That is true but I can tell my family and friends what I am trying to accomplish and let them know exactly how to support me without getting self righteous about it. The only way they are going to know what I need and how to give it is if I tell them. I need to ask them to eat healthy with me, but if they can't do it, just don’t push food on me or ask if I want a bite.

Excuse: "My family nags me about my weight and it makes me want to rebel."

This is like the friends who push bad eating habits. Once I tell them, if the family still nags, I need to set boundaries. My weight and fitness habits are simply not up for discussion, and I won’t discuss events or things that trigger them to start in on you.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. When I started my diet regimen I wanted to get a good jump on dropping the extra pounds so I went online and found a weight loss supplement called STG Acai Berry that I believe helped me to burn fat more efficiently.
I didn’t seem to feel like I was starving to death when I cut down on my portion sizes, and I lost about 15 pounds in the first 4 weeks, so I was happy about that. If you are looking for for diet or any other type of supplement try SupplementsTogo.Com They had low prices on all their supplements which made it more affordable for me to reach my fitness goals.

Good Meals … Good Deals

I got an email from Kelly Sonora last week about nutritious foods and still sticking to a budget. She did a great job and I thought it was worth passing on. Here are the foods that she recommended. Eating nutritious meals does not mean breaking the budget.

Many people including bodybuilders do choose to supplement their nutrition, so when a supplement is required, visit this high quality online site. See what you think.

Eating healthy is a great idea in theory, but when sticking to your budget is as important as it is during this economic crisis, it’s often quicker and easier to pick up the cheapest foods at the store. These 50 foods, however, prove that nutrition doesn’t have to be as expensive as you think.

Fruits

Eating fresh fruits that are in season can actually save you money. These fruits, including apricots and raspberries, will give you the most nutrition bang for your buck.

Strawberries: When bought in season, strawberries can be bought in bulk or individually for a modest price. And just one half cup of raw strawberries contains 149% of your daily value for Vitamin C.
Apricots: Apricots are a good source of the antioxidant beta-carotene, which is converted to Vitamin A once ingested. Buy fresh apricots and dry them yourself for better savings.
Blackberries: Raw blackberries are low in calories but have a significant amount of dietary fibers, plus 50% of your daily value of Vitamin C per cup.
Raspberries: Raw raspberries are another easy, healthy snack that isn’t too costly. They contain Vitamin K, magnesium, dietary fiber, and Vitamin C.
Cherries: Make sure you buy cherries in season, or they can get expensive. They’re known as a "super fruit" because of their very high beta carotene content, as well as their fiber, folate, iron, magnesium, Vitamin C and potassium content.
Cantaloupe: Cantaloupes not only go a long way in terms of recipes and snacking, they’re also low in calories, have no fat, and contain 120% of your daily value of Vitamin A and 108% Vitamin C in just one cup.
Pears: One pear contains 24% of your daily value of fiber and have a low glycemic index, which means that the carbohydrates are slow to convert to sugar. Pears also contain Vitamin C and Potassium.
Raisins: Raisins do contain plenty of sugars, but no fat or cholesterol. They are also a good source of potassium, iron and dietary fiber.
Watermelon: Buy a huge watermelon in season for a cost-effective summer snack that’s packed with vitamins. Watermelons contain Vitamin A, B6, and lots of Vitamin C.
Peaches: Buy fresh, not canned, peaches for the best nutritional value. Peaches contain beta-carotene, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Vitamin A.
Figs: Buy fresh figs and dry them yourself to save on cost. Figs are fat, cholesterol, and sodium-free; have 20% of your daily value of fiber; and "have the highest overall mineral content of common fruits," according to California Figs.
Blueberries: Blueberries are strong carriers of Vitamin C, manganese and dietary fiber, and also contain Vitamin E.
Cranberries: Cranberries are actually low in sugar and calories and contain lots of Vitamin C, dietary fiber, manganese and Vitamin K.
Oranges: Get plenty of Vitamin C, as well as dietary fiber, folate, Vitamin B1, potassium, Vitamin A and calcium from just one orange.
Bananas: Bananas may have carbs and sugar, but they’ve also got lots of Vitamin C and potassium, plus Vitamin B6, dietary fiber and manganese, making them a nutrient-rich snack.

Vegetables

Like fruits, fresh veggies are often inexpensive and can be used for lots of different meals and snacks during the week. Eat these vegetables to get your iron, calcium, fiber and other nutrients.
Asparagus: Asparagus has more folic acid than any other vegetable. Folic acid helps prevent liver disease and helps your blood cells grow.
Tomatoes: Tomatoes contain beta and alpha-carotene, lutein, fiber, potassium, Vitamin C, folate and more vitamins. Plus, depending on the variety you choose, they’re quite inexpensive.
Crimini mushrooms: Crimini mushrooms have almost no calories but are packed with potassium, selenium, Vitamins B2, B1, B6 and B3, zinc, magnesium, iron, calcium, folate, protein and more.
Squash and Zucchini: Summer squash and zucchini are only about $1 - $2 a piece and contain a moderate amount of Vitamin C and Vitamin A, plus iron and protein.
Black beans: Black beans are one of the healthiest varieties of beans, containing 24% of your daily value of dietary fiber, 14% of your daily value of protein, and no saturated fat per 1/2 cup.
Lentils: Raw lentils have a lot of calories, but no saturated fat and 50g of protein. They’re also an excellent source of iron and dietary fiber.
Carrots: Raw carrots bought individually are incredibly cheap and are a good source of dietary fiber. One cup of copped carrots also contains 428% of your daily value of Vitamin A.
Broccoli: One cup of raw broccoli flowerets only contains 20 calories but has 110% of your daily value of Vitamin C, 43% of Vitamin A, and no fat or cholesterol.
Kidney beans: Kidney beans are rich in B-complex vitamins, niacin, folate, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids, soluble fiber and calcium.
Pearl Barley: Add pearl barley to a soup or salad for a major dietary fiber boost, plenty of iron, and a good dose of protein.
Leafy spinach: Leafy spinach is moderately priced by the bunch, and can be divided up for multiple salads, sandwiches and garnishes. It contains fiber, B-complex vitamins, folate, magnesium, lutein and potassium.
Potatoes: Potatoes contain carbohydrates, calories and sugars, but they’re also a very versatile, cost-effective food that contains lots of nutrients like Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, potassium, manganese and dietary fiber.
Green bell pepper: Green bell peppers are cheaper than red bell peppers, but each one still contains 220% of your daily value of Vitamin C.
Cabbage: Cabbage contains 91% of your daily value of Vitamin K; over 50% for Vitamin C; and a healthy amount of dietary fiber, Vitamin b6, omega-3 fatty acids, folate, manganese and more.
Jalapeno pepper: A jalapeno pepper is very cheap, and because it’s so hot and spicy, only a very small portion is needed at a time, making it cost-effective. Jalapeno peppers also contain Vitamin C and Vitamin A, plus a healthy amount of dietary fiber and iron.

Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds can be bought in bulk or buy the pound. Best of all, they’re packed with nutrients and vitamins, and you only need a small amount to get the benefits, making them last between trips to the grocery store.

Almonds: Try unsalted almonds for plenty of omega-3 fatty acids, polyunsaturated fats, Vitamin E and fiber. You only need a handful for an energy boost that will fill you up, too.
Flaxseed: Flaxseed is usually sold in pretty large bags, and you only need to add a tiny bit to cereal or any homemade breads and grains for the benefits. Flaxseed contains omega-3 fatty acids and lots of fiber.
Walnuts: Walnuts are another healthy nut that contains magnesium, folate, polyunsaturated fats, omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin E. Add a few to a fruit salad, or eat them alone.
Sunflower seeds: Sunflower seeds contain lots of Vitamin E, more than almonds, peanut butter or even spinach.
Sesame seed kernels: A handful of sesame seed kernels contains a healthy amount of iron, calcium and protein, plus dietary fiber.
Brazil nuts: Brazil nuts are considered an excellent source of selenium and also contain protein, fiber and magnesium.

Grains

Picking the whole-grain version doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go over budget. These healthy foods are also cost effective.

Whole grain or multigrain bread: You don’t have to buy the fancy bread: just pick out a moderately priced (maybe the generic brand) whole grain or multigrain version to get heart-healthy bread that has plenty of dietary fiber.

Brown rice: Rice goes a long way, and it’s inexpensive. Plus, it’s full of fiber, B-complex vitamins, niacin and magnesium.
Whole-wheat spaghetti: Even the whole-wheat variety of spaghetti makes a cheap meal, and it’s packed with fiber.
Couscous: Like rice and pasta, couscous goes a long way when you cook it. It also contains protein and fiber, when you choose the whole-wheat or whole-grain variety.
Whole grain tortillas: One whole-grain tortilla has 8g of protein and 7g of dietary fiber. Tortillas are usually sold in large packs, too.
Oatmeal: Depending on the kind of oatmeal you buy, you can usually find a pretty good deal. It’s also a good source of fiber.

Beverages

You can drink your way to good health, too, and these beverage options are also budget-friendly.

Green tea: Green tea contains the highest concentration of the antioxidants called polyphenols, and may help prevent some types of cancer and heart disease. Buy your own green tea packets from the grocery store to save on cost.
Milk: Low-fat or non-fat milk that is fortified with Vitamin D, plus calcium, Vitamin A and protein. Buy store brand or generic brand milk for a better deal.
Orange juice: Generic brand orange juice isn’t terribly expensive, and it contains Vitamin D and plenty of Vitamin C.

Miscellaneous

From sardines to yogurt, these healthy foods are also packed with nutrients.
Plain yogurt: Buy large containers of plain, non-fat yogurt instead of the individual snack-sized yogurts to save money and get the most nutritional version. One cup of plain yogurt contains 14g of protein and 49% of your daily value of calcium. Plus, it also contains probiotics which help your body absorb nutrients.
Egg whites: Egg whites do contain a fair amount of sodium, but they also contain 26g of protein per cup and zero fat.
Tuna: Tuna is a cold-water fish that contains much-needed omega-3 fatty acids and lots of protein. It’s also usually cheaper than salmon or mackerel.
Tomato soup: Make your own variety for an even more cost-effective soup. Tomato soup is a good source of Vitamin C, iron, Vitamin A and dietary fiber.
Sardines: Sardines are an excellent source of iron, calcium and protein, as well as niacin, Vitamin D and Vitamin B12. Just don’t indulge too often: sardines are also very high in cholesterol.

10 Not So Secret Diet Tips

I see a lot of articles on the internet that start with phrases like 10 Secret Tips You Should Know” etc etc So I tried to think of 10 things about losing weight that I have learned over the years, and here is what I came up with.

1 An idea for home is to get yourself some smaller plates. We all like to fill our plates at dinner and the larger the plate, the more we will tend to eat. By having a smaller plate you may be able to train yourself to eat smaller portions of your favorite foods and still feel satisfied.

2 don’t skip breakfast. This can slow down your metabolism and your body will want to store more food as fat. Also you will be starving by lunchtime and will tend to lose any benefit from eating less earlier. Get a variety of high fiber cereals or breakfast bars with low sugar content. This is going to give you more energy, help your digestion and help you feel full until lunch time.

3 Drink lots of water instead of soda or juice. There are no calories in it, it makes you feel full and you won’t be thirsty. In addition water will help you flush toxins from your system and help with weight loss.

4 Get out and exercise even if you are stuck behind a desk. You may not always have time to go to a gym to burn calories but you can take a stretch break every so often and walk around a bit. Try parking farther away from the office and walking to work. This might save on parking fees also. You can do isometric stretches at your desk or a push up or 10 if you have your own space. When you have to move between floors try walking the stairs instead of riding the elevator. I use 3 up and 3 down as a general rule.

5 Because you are on a diet doesn’t have to stop going out. As you look and feel better you will want to go out more anyway. Just make different choices. Try club soda or tonic water instead of a beer. They look like mixed drinks and as the night wears on you will still be more in control of your actions. That’s why it’s called a beer belly isn’t it?

6 Take your own lunch to work. You are then in control of how many calories you have and it will save you from running out and getting a greasy burger and fries when you get hungry.

7 Find a diet and/or exercise partner. It is much easier to stay on target with some support. Like the theory behind AA or OA have their phone number handy and be willing to talk to each other when you feel like breaking your commitment to change the bad eating habits you got into.

8 Many people keep a diary of what they eat and the number of calories. As soon as you finish eating write it all down, keep it for two weeks then divide by 14. When you have a baseline try to reduce it by 10% over the next two weeks. It gives you another way to check your progress. Try it. It might be fun.

9 Make an effort to stay away from canned goods or processed foods. Just because they write healthy on the package, doesn’t always make it nutritious for you. They are usually loaded with salt, fat and calories. If the contents sound appetizing, you can make the same thing at home pretty easily, and from natural ingredients. Homemade almost always tastes better anyway.

10 Try to eat dinner earlier than later. You should not have anything after 8:00 PM because you won’t have time to digest your food properly before bed time. Your metabolism is low when you sleep, and if you are digesting your meal as you sleep your body produces more insulin which causes your body to store food as fat.

And don’t just flop on the couch after dinner. Get in at least a little activity to help digestion along.
