The Pool Is Open
I was over at my son’s house over the weekend, they opened the pool and we had a great time. Even though there were not any small children around, I thought back to when they were small, and we would always have to be on guard constantly whether we were at home, at a public pool or on vacation around the Ocean. So remember to stay safe, active, and healthy when it’s hot outside.
Drowning is a leading cause of death in infants, children and adolescents. Learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) so you can act quickly to prevent drowning.
Stay Active without over doing it. There are many ways to stay active and beat the heat.
Here are a few:
Go to a gym for a nice, cool environment with a variety of activities.
Use the equipment, work out with free weights, or whatever turns you on, but remember to pace yourself. Listen to your body, and it will tell you when enough is enough.Visit your favorite local swimming hole or take swimming lessons at a pool.
Start a walking group with your friends at the mall. It’s another way to stay connected, focused and motivated.
Take up an indoor sport, such as racquetball, basketball or volleyball, or taking an aerobics class.
Go ice skating. Yes they are open in the Summer also.
If you are outside when it’s hot and humid, wear light, comfortable clothing and work out in the early morning or late evening. Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If you experience symptoms, stop exercising and cool down immediately by dousing yourself with cold water. You may need medical attention.
Heat exhaustion can progress quickly to heat stroke, which can kill you. Learn about hot weather and cardiovascular disease and the symptoms of heat exhaustion and stroke.
Fire up the grill Keep these tips in mind to help you grill “fat-sensibly” this summer.Try grilling fish. The healthiest types include salmon, trout and herring, which are high in heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Buy chicken breasts instead of the fattier dark meat (legs and thighs). Remember to remove the skin before eating or try grilling chicken or turkey burgers using breast meat and add diced onions for more flavor.
Choose “loin” and “round” cuts of red meat and pork. Look for “choice” or “select” grades of beef instead of “prime.” While these have the least amount of fat, don’t forget to trim the fat when you get home. Use a rack so the fat drips away from the food.
If you wonder about a need to supplement your diet, Here are a few things to think about.
There is no one single pill that will supply all your daily requirements, but multiple vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other supplements are readily available in tonic, pill, and many other forms.
But what do you really need to be healthier? And how much do you need? And how can you make sure that you are getting it?
For starters, WebMD compiled an expert-approved list of the top five healthiest nutrients and how to get them. Go there and browse the site for yourself. Here is the short version.Calcium Hands down, calcium, which comes from foods including low-fat dairy products and supplements, is essential for a healthy body. How do you know? Consider that an 8 oz glass of milk or calcium-fortified juice or a cup of yogurt contains about 300 mg.
So, take a look at what you are normally eating, and if you are not in the range, consider a supplement.
Magnesium The Daily Value (DV) for magnesium is around 400 mg. However, most magnesium researchers say we need two to three times this amount, especially for people who have magnesium-deficient conditions including heart disease, muscle cramps, headaches, and muscle pain.
Magnesium deficiencies are seen in a host of conditions including asthma, diabetes, kidney disease, and even migraines. Magnesium also helps with calcium absorption, so you need it to help build healthy bones. Magnesium is harder to get through foods, so supplements are usually necessary.
Magnesium-rich foods do include almonds, peanuts, brown rice, and cereals like oat bran and shredded wheat.
Vitamin B which includes B-6, B-12, and folate (folic acid) are key to overall health.According to the American Heart Association, homocysteine is an amino acid that has been linked to an increased risk for heart attack, stroke, and other major diseases. It may damage the inner lining of arteries and promote blood clots, but researchers are still not sure exactly how it affects disease risk.
However homocysteine levels are strongly influenced by diet, and several studies have found that higher blood levels of B vitamins are related, at least partly, to lower concentrations of homocysteine. The Daily Values for the B vitamins are: folate, 400 micrograms or more; B-6, 1.5-2 mg; and B-12, 2.4-3 mcg.
Today, cereals, breads, and other grain products are fortified with extra folate. Also fruits and vegetables like spinach, oranges, broccoli, and asparagus have high levels of folate. Check your multivitamin to see how it stacks up with B-6 for body function, and B-12 for energy.
Vitamin D, or the sunshine vitamin because your body makes it in response to sunlight, is often overlooked today. More people are staying out of the sun and as a result are becoming deficient in vitamin D and setting themselves up for fractures.Vitamin D helps your bones properly use calcium. Normally 15 minutes of sunlight per day with sunscreen is a good idea.
Dairy products including milk yogurt and cheese all are fortified with vitamin D. Aim for 600 IU for vitamin D.
Multi vitamins One way to make sure that you get at least the minimum amount of all your vitamins and minerals is to take a Multi Vitamin every day. There is quite a bit of evidence that multivitamins are important for general health, immunity, and well-being. Vitamins were traditionally useful in preventing deficiency disease which we don’t really see so more in this country.
Today vitamins are used to support normal organ and body functions, enhance immunity, improve cardiovascular function, and even prevent cancer.
Enjoy It!

What Is The Alternative For …
Now that Hydroxycut has been pulled from the market people are searching for safe alternatives for assisting in the struggle to lose weight. For starters staying healthy has to include eating right. We know that includes high fiber and natural foods like whole grain pasta, fruits, vegetables and lean meats. But even though we know that this is good advice, it can be hard to stick to.
Sometimes you don't have control over what you get served. We are on the go, back and forth to work, running errands and not getting home to eat.
When you don’t get enough fiber and drink enough water, your digestive system can get backed up. You can experience weight gain, a loss of energy, bloating, or gas.
One effective way to eliminate this “build-up” is to use a cleansing supplement. One of the better ones available online is called Sculpt n’ Cleanse, and it’s safe and gentle to use.
It is the first-step, many take when beginning a weight loss, body shaping, anti-aging or health improvement program, and since the digestive system has been cleansed, more energy and nutrients can be absorbed from food.
Many individuals have said they have more energy and even feel younger. Others report that their skin clears up because the body is able to cleanse itself. And don’t forget the painful and unattractive bloating gets cleared up too. It could be that those jeans that were just a bit too tight around the middle will fit again.
Another benefit for people who have had years of impacted waste in their colons, may be losing 10 - 20 pounds in a matter of days. That’s like carrying around a bag of dog food around all day. Just the loss of that weight helps to move better.
And since their digestive system can now function better, they find it easier to control food cravings. So they may lose more weight, or at least, find it easier to keep from gaining weight.
Because of the problems with Hydroxycut , other safe alternatives for losing weight are becoming more well known.
Acai Berry is one that is taking the world by storm. It is an antioxidant that is known also for it's weight loss properties when combined with other natural antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and amino acids, work together to help your body function better, process food easier, and burn fat more efficiently.
All this means that we do not have to accept weight gain, lethargy, and pain as signs of aging.
If we are what we eat lets go with the good stuff, and get a good exercise routine to go along with it.

Lose Fat Not Muscle
If you only go on a diet and neglect to exercise or work-out, you lose fat, but muscle also gets reduced in the process. The key is to burn fat and keep the muscle intact. One good way to accomplish both is with weight training. Stick to the diet plan you already set up and use a meal replacement supplement like Prolab Lean Mass Matrix. The ingredients in Lean Mass Matrix feed the protein-thirsty muscles in your body.
With a workout plan added to your well balanced diet, your body will begin to use your stored fat for energy. This means you lose fat and not muscle.
You will notice higher levels of energy as your body sheds unwanted fat and starts to display lean, strong muscle. You will look and feel better than ever before.

Spring Is Here, The Grass Is Green, So Go Green
I have been getting questions ever since Chtistmas about products to help drop the winter weight that they picked up over the holidays. What I found was a diet pill called Green Stinger. This is a pretty high impact stimulant that was formulated to kick start a fat loss diet and burn body fat. These also contains ingredients to increase energy and focus along with the body you have visualized.Make sure your doctor says you are healthy enough before you start any weight loss program or training regimen though.
The manufacturer is Schwartz Labs, who makes quality products at reasonable prices. The reviews I have seen back up the claims that they are effective. Other diet pills do not seem to be able to replicate the effects of the classic Ephedra-Caffeine supplements. Do You Keep Tight Control Of Your Diabetes?
If you can keep your blood sugar levels as close to normal as possible it can be a lifesaver. Tight control can prevent or slow the progress of many complications of diabetes, giving you extra years of healthy, active life. But tight control is not for everyone and it involves hard work.
Your physician will tell you that means you need to get between 70 and 130 mg/dl before meals, and less than 180 two hours after starting a meal.
In real life, maintaining a normal level all the time is not practical. And it's not needed to get results, but everything you can do to lower your blood glucose level helps to prevent complications.
It is unknown why high sugar levels cause complications in people with diabetes but research has proved that if people keep a tight rein on their glucose levels they lower their chances of diabetic eye disease, kidney disease, and nerve disease, and also far fewer people who already had early forms of these three complications got worse.
If your goal is to live a healthier life with this disease you must pay more attention to your diet and exercise, measure your blood glucose levels, and if you take insulin, change how much you use and your injection schedule.
In intensive therapy, you provide yourself with a low level of insulin at all times and take extra insulin when you eat. This pattern mimics the release of insulin from the normal pancreas.
What many people choose is multiple daily injections of insulin while others choose an insulin pump (both work fine).
With multiple daily injection therapy, you take three or more insulin shots per day. Usually, you take a shot of short-acting or Regular insulin before each meal and a shot of intermediate- or long-acting insulin at bedtime.
With an insulin pump, you wear a tiny pump that releases insulin into your body through a plastic tube. Usually, it gives you a constant small dose of Regular insulin. You also have the pump release extra insulin when you need it, such as before a meal. Your health care team will set this up with you.
When you first begin to get things under control it’s kind of exciting. but overwhelming also. The trick is to be like the Energizer Bunny and keep going and going. Start out with your goals in mind and take things a step at a time.
Start slowly. Start by looking at yourself honestly. If you are still angry and depressed that you have diabetes, you’ll have to adjust to the changes you will have to make in your life.
Keep your goals realistic. No matter how hard you try, your blood glucose readings will not be perfect every time. If they are often too high or too low, talk to your doctor, but if "wrong" levels happen only sometimes, that's falls under the category of things happen, you’ll get better over time.
Doctors believe that tight control can also prevent complications in people with type 2 diabetes.
One way is to lose weight. Shedding excess pounds may bring your glucose levels down to normal. The key to losing weight and keeping it off is changing your behavior so that you eat less and exercise more.
Even if you don't need to lose weight, exercise is helpful in controlling your blood glucose levels. It makes your cells take glucose out of the blood.
If exercise and good eating habits are not enough to keep your glucose under control, you doctor may prescribe pills. And if these don't work, you may need to take insulin.

Exchange Carbs With Protein In My Diet?
A new study on losing weight was recently published in the Journal of Nutrition found that diets with more protein may be better for reducing body fat and improving the fat in your blood also. The researchers suggested that dieters exchange some carbohydrates for protein.Over the course of a year a moderate-protein diet worked better than a regular high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet to help adults shed body fat. The other benefits had to do with increasing "healthy" HDL cholesterol and decreasing triglycerides, which can clog the arteries.
For the study all participants were given menu plans and attended weekly meetings with a dietitian to help them stick with their lifestyle changes. If you don’t have a personal dietitian and don’t think you are getting enough protein you can find Supplements like Whey Protein powder which athletes and body builders have used for years. Whey protein is also low in calories, tastes great, and mixes easily in juice, milk, or water.
One of the problems with any diet is plan is going about it the right way if you want to succeed, and that is where the dietitians helped. They planned menus and conducted weekly nutrition education sessions. If they had to do it by themselves the individual results might have varied somewhat.
If you want to cut out carbohydrates by modifying your eating plan to include more protein you also have to change your approach to how many meals you consume each day.
What that means is the idea of eating around six small meals over the course of a day works when the diet is high carb, low fat because people are hungry more often, but it's opposite for a moderate protein diet.
The dietitians advised that it is more important to eat three consistent meals with balanced protein and carbohydrates for each meal. A higher protein diet is not more protein at dinner, but balanced protein at breakfast and lunch.
The bottom line was that after a year, the average weight loss was similar in the two groups, the moderate protein diet lost 23 pounds, and around 19 pounds with the high carbohydrate diet.
The difference between the two groups was the protein diet lost more fat mass, and had greater improvements in both HDL and triglyceride levels.
Dr. Donald K. Layman, of the University of Illinois in Urbana was the lead researcher, and he concluded that the extra protein at each meal helps dieters preserve "metabolically active" muscle mass. Along with that the diet's lower carbohydrate content means lower levels of the blood-sugar-regulating hormone insulin.
According to Dr. Layman the diet encourages the body to shed more stored fat. The greater improvement in triglycerides, he said, is largely the result of cutting carbs, which can raise triglyceride levels.
My personal philosophy on nutrition, along with everything else in life is Moderation. I like the idea of a well balanced moderate protein diet, not only to control blood sugars but because the body needs all of the nutrients that supply energy carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Each category has a special purpose and is essential in the proper amounts, and causes problems for the body in the wrong amounts. Too much of any of these nutrients can lead to an increase in body fat. Add a good exercise program to the mix and you have everything it takes for a healthy lifestyle.

You Can Do It
In order to stay on track with that commitment to eat healthier and lose weight it's going to be important to control your diet but ...You Can Do It!
Have you ever wondered what/why Body Mass Index (BMI) is?
Your standard bathroom scale gives you one indication of your size, but unless you figure in your height, you might be “under tall” for your weight.
The body mass index (BMI) provides a more accurate assessment of your weight.
Under 25 - normal weight,
25 to 29 – overweight,
30 and above - obese
If you can’t find one of those BMI calculators you can use this formula to do it yourself. You might even build your own spreadsheet to do it. This example is of someone who is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds:
1. Write down your weight in pounds (200).
2. Multiply that number by 703 (200x703=140,600).
3. Multiply your height in inches by itself (70x70=4,900)
4. Divide the answer to No. 2 by the answer to No. 3(140,600 ÷ 4,900=28.69)
So if you check your BMI and determine that you are indeed too short for your weight where do we go from here. We have all heard at one time or another that the optimum diet is balanced and varied. It includes fruits and dark green vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products in addition to fish and low fat meat and chicken.
If we can faithfully stick to that plan it will provide nearly all the nutrients that most of us need. On the other hand, if you are one of those who have trouble eating healthful foods on a regular basis, like dieters who avoid carbohydrates or consume less than 1,200 calories daily or strict vegetarians, you may need to add a daily multivitamin to help fill the shortcomings.
And for those people over 50 or those with chronic diseases we might eat healthfully but still need higher amounts of certain nutrients.
Eating healthy and staying trim is not about having a genetic advantage though. Consumer reports recently asked their readers about their lifetime weight history and their eating, dieting and exercise habits. The "always thin" group made up 16 percent of the sample, and successful losers who had dropped at least 10% of their heaviest weight and kept it off for at least 3 years, made up another 15%. Dieters who wanted to slim down but still weighed at or near their lifetime high were the largest group at 42%. The other 27% didn't fit into any of the categories.
Only about 3 percent said that they didn’t exercise and they could eat whatever they wanted. In order to maintain their weight and health the people who responded said they ate healthy foods regularly, watched their portions, and exercised regularly. The only advantage the always thin have over the successful dieters was that those habits seem to come a bit more naturally to them, according to Consumer Reports.
So it seems that if you want to stay fit and trim in this culture, you are going to have to work at it. About half of us can successfully lose weight by our own will power but others need the help of some type of sponsored diet program, a medical treatment, a book, or diet pills.

Procrastination Will Not Help Prevent A Second Heart Attack
None of us ever set out to have a heart attack, but thinking I’ll Get ARoundToIt, catches up at some point. How many of ua said things like, "Someday I'll stop smoking, start exercising and lose weight," for months or maybe years. Then, one fateful day, a heart attack issues a wake-up call. There's a silver lining in that dark cloud though. For many of us who have survived one, we get a second chance to live a long and productive life afterwards. The facts are that most people can have a full recovery, and if you change your habits and actively work to control on your risk factors, you can help prevent a second heart attack.
After I got out of the hospital, I was centered on my heart, and it had my complete and undivided attention. My cardiologist talked with me about a cardiac rehabilitation program and how to reduce my risks going forward:
I wasn’t a smoker to begin with so I didn’t have to be told to quit smoking, but he did caution me about second hand smoke. If I did smoke I know that there are many programs and ways to stop smoking, including nicotine-replacement products and other medicines.
One of my biggest challenges was to manage my weight. My body mass index (BMI) was 30 and waist circumference was 36. My goal was a BMI of less than 25 and a waist circumference of less than 40 inches, a woman aims for a 35. At 5”10 and 212 lbs I still had a way to go. I had to lose weight, exercise, cut back on salt, increase fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products. I now have more greens, 1% milk, and low fat cottage cheese, in my diet.
Another goal of rehab is regular exercise. I exercised six days a week for an hour for the first two months. Most people should get 30 to 60 minutes of moderate activity, such as brisk walking, five to seven days a week. Include resistance training twice a week. Examples include working out with weights or doing sit-ups or push-ups. While in rehab I had a team of nurses to monitor my progress before I would increase my routine.
Another area of concern for me was managing my diabetes. I still have to work constantly to keep it under control. My goal was and is to keep A1C levels, which is basically a 3 month average of blood sugar levels, to less than 7 percent. Right now I am at 8.6
My blood pressure also needed to stay low. This goal was to stay under 130/80 mm Hg. If I didn’t have type II diabetes it would be 140/90.
My cholesterol had to be controlled also. My LDL, or what I refer to as "lousy" cholesterol, needed to be less than 100 mg/dl. If your doctor looks at your overall risks, they may recommend an even lower goal. To do this I had to watch how many saturated fats, trans fats and cholesterol I ate, and increased my fiber. I started taking Lipitor along with a weight loss program and exercising 6 times a week.
Finally, my doctor recommend taking a daily 85mg aspirin, and a flu shot every year to lower your risk of pneumonia and other flu-related complications.
The point of all this is that old proverb “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you could do today”

Less Belly Fat Is Good For Eyesight
MyHealthCentral had an interesting news item from a study conducted at the University of Melbourne, Australia. This study suggested that people who lose weight around their middle, can decrease their odds of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is the leading cause of severe vision loss among elderly people. With all the emphasis on Obesity these days, this may be another good reason to lose weight. This will also motivate me to work harder on my own diet over the holidays, and not “fall off the wagon’, when tempted by all the holiday treats. I will remember to eat nutritional meals, exercise, and stay on my diet.
These researchers looked at how changes in weight affect developing AMD for 6 years in over 12,000 adults between 45 and 64 years old, so it was pretty inclusive.
During this period the average waist-to-hip ratio increased by 2 percent. People with a 3 percent or greater drop in waist-to-hip ratio, the odds of AMD fell significantly compared to people with stable weight.
Those who were obese at the start of the study, and lost belly fat, reduced their AMD risk even more.
P.S. If you are like me and need an extra boost to stay on track with your weight loss program, click here and check out these products. I found a coupon code: vip5off that can be used to keep costs down, during the holiday season.

Together Trumps Alone

Whoa. What happened? Where did the ‘wide body’ come from? I was feeling pretty down on myself, until I looked around at my other married friends. I have since learned that this is a pretty typical situation. I found out there was a study that concluded that if one spouse becomes obese, the likelihood that the other spouse will follow increases by 37 percent.
I read in an article by Dr. Michael Rosen, that many of us gain 15 or more pounds in our early adult years, but people who live with a partner often gain more. Within five years, newly married women gain an average of 24 pounds, and men gain an average of 30 pounds, according to a study presented at the Obesity Society annual scientific meeting.
What happens after you are in a committed relationship is that your schedules, habits and patterns change. More meals, larger helpings, missed gym sessions, snacking together, juggling families and jobs, complacency all add up.
A University of Connecticut researcher Amy Gorin, Ph.D., who focuses on strategies for long-term weight loss, offered some good ideas on battling those bulges:
1. Commit early to a healthful home. Subscribe to healthful-cooking magazines and try the recipes together. Support each other's workout schedules, too.
2. Weigh in regularly. When you step on a scale every day, the instant feedback gives you a chance to assess trends and make changes before habits become deeply ingrained.
3. Downsize dinnerware. Control portion sizes with smaller plates and bowls.
4. Scour the cabinets. "Once a month, go through the pantry and make sure high-fat, high-sugar items aren't sneaking back into your home," advises Dr. Gorin.
5. Team up for positive results. Choose activity over being sedentary. Bike, walk, take a yoga class, go dancing. Anything active works. As a couple, you have an advantage: an automatic exercise partner. Check with your doctor before a major increasing in physical activity.
6. Don't stop your favorite solo exercises. If an aerobics class and early morning run were important before the relationship, keep it up.
7. Beware of the garbage-can effect. Nibbling your way through food prep and cleanup tastes good but can add unwanted pounds.
8. Stay positive and supportive. "Nagging, controlling comments and unwanted policing usually backfire," Dr. Gorin says. "They really undermine someone's motivation." So, compliment and encourage each other's efforts.
So if you find yourself in a similar situation to the one I was in, just remember that it’s never too late to change those bad habits. If you need to lose weight, or help with better nutrition, there is plenty of diet help available online.

I just read the Press Release where WorldClassNutrition.com announced the availability of the newly developed Weight Loss Pill named ThinQuik25.It's being offered for a limited time at $39.99 a bottle. After this weekend the regular price will go to $59.99 per 90 ct. bottle. This is a real deal.
THINQUICK 25 is a proven ECA Stack. The powerful and potent formula is believed to be the strongest formula you can get.
I know that they have been researching this at STG Supplements for years and World Class Nutrition is the first official online retailer of this product.
They are committed to have the best online price anywhere on the Internet. STG Supplements are developed to give sports athletes that competitive edge. They stand behind every ingredient and every product they make. Each of their quality products will meet or exceed the labels description for potency.
If you are serious about losing that spare tire, or love handles, this is a great opportunity to follow through on that commitment.
